The Prada Spring/Summer 2024 collection advocates for a radical freedom of expression through the use of lightweight dresses made from ethereal fabrics that challenge traditional tailoring norms. It reimagines formal silhouettes borrowed from men’s fashion into architectural shapes that redefine the standard contours of formal wear.
Incorporating Prada’s signature materials, the collection introduces bags and footwear adorned with luxurious leathers.
This collection also pays tribute to a handbag design originally conceived by Mario Prada, the grandfather of Miuccia Prada and one of Prada’s co-founders, back in 1913. While the original design used silk moiré, the new iteration is crafted from Nappa leather and re-nylon, featuring a meticulously hand-carved fastening depicting a mythological figure.
Mario Prada, a worldly traveler with a deep intellectual curiosity and a strong interest in culture, journeyed across the globe to source precious artifacts. Upon his return, he would transform these discoveries into unique luxury items.
Furthermore, the concept of fluidity, which frames the human form, is evident not only in the fashion but also in the presentation space within the Fondazione Prada’s Deposito. Abstract partitions create an ever-changing pathway through which models move, forming an enfilade that symbolizes the collection’s fluid and dynamic approach.
