Khaite NYFW25: Cinematic Drama Meets New York Edge

Catherine Holstein isn’t one to design around a rigid theme, but for Fall/Winter 2025-2026, she embraced a compelling concept: What if David Lynch reimagined a Merchant Ivory film? This vision set the stage for a collection that masterfully blended cinematic intrigue with real-world wearability—two forces Holstein continuously hones at Khaite.

Lynch’s influence surfaced in the collection’s darker, more enigmatic elements—sleek leather, leopard-print pony skin separates, and deconstructed corsets that exuded effortless, undone elegance. Meanwhile, nods to classic period dramas were evident in subtly bustled dresses and voluminous silhouettes, creating a tension between structured refinement and raw sensuality. The runway itself, a striking gold circle at the Park Avenue Armory, subtly referenced The Wizard of Oz, a Lynch favorite, adding another layer of surrealism to the presentation.

While past collections leaned into grandeur, Holstein introduced pieces this season that felt distinctly grounded. Relaxed dark-wash jeans, sharp trousers paired with fine-gauge knits, and structured leather jackets brought a dose of New York practicality. Intriguing details—such as mismatched tacks on a distressed leather jacket and the frayed, unraveling edges of silk corset tops—added a raw, DIY sensibility, offering a striking contrast to Khaite’s signature polish.

With FW25, Holstein continued to carve out her own space in fashion, redefining the intersection of independent spirit and refined luxury. It’s this balance that makes Khaite stand out against its larger European counterparts—unapologetically bold, undeniably modern, and effortlessly powerful.
