Givenchy Spring/Summer 2024: Elegance Reimagined with Heritage and Modernity

Givenchy’s spring 2024 show was a multifaceted display, providing a glimpse of the label’s diverse facets while subtly paying homage to its archives. The collection featured an array of styles, including lightweight, sheer, and strappy silk dresses, oversized blazers, and a strong emphasis on draped dresses. These draped dresses were crafted using various materials such as sheer silk gauze, satin, and luxurious textiles with intricate textures.

Contrasts played a significant role in this collection, manifesting as bold lines and striking oppositions. Notably, the runway showcased the layering of oversized jackets over long and flowing maxi dresses. Architectural touches were evident in sleeveless dresses with arched, pointed necklines, adding a unique dimension to the designs.

However, the collection’s true showstopper was the captivating display of textural wonders that illuminated the all-white outdoor venue at École Militaire. The set, designed by Gabriel Calatrava in collaboration with the Collaborative Architecture Laboratory, featured lush fabrics suspended around a lightweight steel structure, creating a striking backdrop.

This season, fashion houses have been revisiting their archives, and Givenchy embraced this trend. Sensuous ASMR-level beaded dresses graced the runway, paying homage to the brand’s rich history. Moreover, the collection seamlessly fused elements of lingerie dressing with subversive office wear, infusing a sense of coolness and sophistication into the overall presentation. It was a reflection of Givenchy’s lighter, more feminine side, departing from its traditional dark neutrals and denim. The incorporation of Ming Dynasty-era Mud silk, characterized by its earthy, leathery appearance, added a unique touch to the collection. Givenchy’s spring 2024 collection masterfully combined various elements, celebrating both the brand’s heritage and contemporary aesthetics, resulting in a multifaceted display of fashion prowess.
