The Musée des Arts-décoratifs, where Elsa Schiaparelli was the subject of a significant retrospective through January 22, 2023, hosted Daniel Roseberry’s Schiaparelli exhibition, which was aptly titled Renaissance. In this context, the term “renaissance” has two meanings. It inspires a kind of renewed awe to witness Elsa Schiaparell’s boundless creativity, artistic brilliance, and creative freedom now. Beyond her stunning pink cape, which has an everlasting sun sewn on it, her world is a delight that should not be underestimated. Never hurts to have a little sense of wonder! This program was transformed by Daniel Roseberry into a tribute to fashion. Everyone involved in the fashion industry is aware that a large portion of society finds what they do absurd. Yet they all dispute this dull critique, but when you stop to think about it, fashion may be absurd at times. Additionally, it is controversial, upsetting, difficult, and significant. It is marvelous. It is absolutely beautiful. The collection has corseted velour sheaths, asymmetrical garments held together by a thread, inverted satin negligees that show the breasts above, cascading wildflowers that emerge over necklines or are worn on the shoulders, extravagant canopies, picturesque caps, and straw capelines. Roseberry imitates the opulence of Christian Lacroix’s 1987 runway debut. Overall, Daniel Roseberry is undoubtedly correct; by starting a collection with humor rather than seriousness, they were able to produce something exquisite that successfully combines the highly modern and the outrageously romantic. It is an honor to be able to appreciate such creations.
