The Mexican-born, Fashion Institute of Technology-trained designer was big on the scene in the ‘90s, winning the CFDA Perry Ellis Award in ’94 for his eponymous collection. Now, after a decade-plus designing for other retailers, Alfaro has returned to his roots—and there’s much to be impressed by. The lines of his latest collection are fluid and flattering, the color palette earthy and luxurious, and the fabrics (satin, mohair, waterproof leather!) utterly sumptuous. These are pieces that can go anywhere and belong everywhere—from Midtown offices to the latest ‘it’ restaurants of Mexico City.
But enough from us. Watch the exclusive video above to hear what esteemed photographer Bruce Weber and Barneys New York Creative Director Dennis Freedman—old friends and constant champions of Alfaro’s work—have to say about his return.
