Zimmermann’s Fall/Winter 2025-2026 collection continued the brand’s signature exploration of romantic femininity, this season drawing inspiration from the iconic 1975 Australian film Picnic at Hanging Rock, which celebrates its 50th anniversary. The film’s dreamlike quality and haunting sense of mystery served as a conceptual foundation, offering a rich lens through which the collection unfolded.
Rather than recreating costumes from the film, creative director Nicky Zimmermann—who has considered the movie an influence since childhood—captured its ethereal spirit through design. Weightless chiffon dresses floated down the runway, adorned with delicate love-letter appliqués and paired with contemporary pinafores that subtly nodded to the film’s Victorian schoolgirl uniforms.
The collection followed a narrative arc that mirrored a journey from innocence to self-discovery. Playful, girlish elements gave way to more structured forms, including tailored denim and supple leather, signaling a shift in tone. Lingerie-inspired lace was reimagined as sweeping dresses and elegant robes, reinforcing Zimmermann’s deep-rooted connection to bohemian femininity—soft yet strong, delicate yet defined.
This season’s focus on lightness, whimsy, and introspection resonated with a broader fashion trend embracing nostalgia and escapism. With each look, Zimmermann invited viewers into a world where the past and present converge—delivering a romantic, cinematic collection that felt both timeless and transcendent.
