Celine’s Creative Director, Hedi Slimane, has transported the fashion house back to its “golden age” with the Fall Winter 2024-2025 collection, aptly named “Arc de Triomphe.” Known for his precise design aesthetic, Slimane focuses on coordinated two-piece looks, A-line silhouettes, and shorter hemlines. The collection progresses from classic little black dresses and strands of pearls to more embellished statements. Picture minidresses sparkling with crystals or gold sequins, and luxurious shearling coats, some featuring hoods.
The film presentation, a departure from past soundtracked reveals, features sweeping classical music accompanying black and white visuals reminiscent of 1960s fashion. Think Twiggy-esque eye makeup, perfectly coiffed models, and sharp tailoring with a distinct 60s polish.
The iconic Triomphe bag, designed by Slimane himself upon joining Celine in 2018, makes a return in gleaming white or black patent leather. It complements the collection’s mary janes and tall boots, completing the polished yet youthful look.
The film also takes viewers on a tour of several famed Parisian Art Deco venues, including the Salle Pleyel concert hall, La Maison de la Chimie, and the Musée Bourdelle. Interspersed are glimpses of models prepping with products from the upcoming Celine Beauté line, set to launch in January 2025. This initial release will feature 15 shades of satin-finish lipstick, with promises of future seasonal collections encompassing a full range of makeup products.
Slimane describes the film as a tribute to the late photographer Richard Avedon, a “dear friend and mentor.” With its focus on timeless elegance and a touch of Parisian grandeur, the “Arc de Triomphe” film undoubtedly achieves that goal.
