The KENZO Spring-Summer 2024 Women’s and Men’s Collection breathes life into a captivating blend of Eastern and Western influences. Under the artistic direction of Nigo, the Maison establishes a fresh and sophisticated elegance that resonates with the new generation. Unveiled at the prestigious Paris Fashion Week, the collection took center stage on the Passerelle Debilly—an iconic footbridge linking Palais de Tokyo to the Eiffel Tower, spanning the enchanting River Seine. This remarkable collection seamlessly unites the legacy of Kenzo Takada with Nigo’s contemporary perspective, drawing inspiration from the vibrant spirit of City Pop.
Drawing from a captivating blend of pop, funk, and boogie—the eclectic soundscape that served as the backdrop to the designer’s youth in 1980s Japan—the collection is gently imbued with a vibrant, graphic, and preppy aesthetic. This infusion of musical influences creates a playful and pop-inspired proposition, adding an energetic and lively atmosphere to the overall design.
The collection skillfully balances and playfully juxtaposes elements from both Japanese and Western wardrobes. Traditional judo uwagi finds new life as a chore jacket, while the seigaiha—an ancient wave print—takes on a fresh interpretation in a captivating indigo hue. The women’s silhouettes exude a heightened sense of elegance, achieved through the delicate layering of translucent fabrics embellished with reimagined archival motifs. This artistic fusion creates a dynamic and refined aesthetic throughout the collection.
The collection fosters a creative exchange with Japanese graphic artist Verdy, who shares a longstanding friendship with Nigo. Verdy lends his artistic vision to the KENZO logo, reimagining it with his distinctive swashed font. This bold interpretation takes center stage, prominently adorning garments and accessories, creating a captivating visual dialogue within the collection.
