The Met Gala 2023 took place on May 1st in New York City, celebrating the opening of the Costume Institute exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” The exhibition honored the famed German fashion designer who died in February 2019 at the age of 85. The co-chairs of the Met Gala 2023 included Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer, and Penélope Cruz. This year’s Met Gala’s red carpet featured A-list attendees who were asked to dress “in honor of Karl.” This meant that some custom ensembles paid homage to Lagerfeld’s design signatures, including his Chanel tweeds and his own black-and-white uniform. The Met Gala is often dubbed the “Super Bowl of fashion” and has created some of the most memorable and viral celebrity red carpet looks from the past decade.
